About

Behind the Music

Genre hopping guitar band SENSES are: Brian, Ian, Kavvy and Ronan. They combine arena ready hooks with evocative soundscapes to create their compelling sound. Equally influenced by shoegaze romanticism, alternative experimentation, and indie ambition, they have been making music and gigging around the UK since they formed.  Now, with the release of their debut full length ‘Little Pictures Without Sound,’ they are set to reach their largest audience yet.

The members of SENSES first met while attending school in Coventry, UK and all come from Irish heritage. The quartet bonded over a shared love of diverse, underground music. Their chemistry was instantly apparent on their early demos, which attracted attention from several major labels. Buoyed by radio support from the BBC, the group gigged across the UK and started work on their debut recordings with Gavin Monaghan (Editors, The Blinders, Kid Kapichi).

The first of these early sessions was released as a single by Shifty Disco (home to The Young Knives, Mark Gardener and Beulah). Drifting and We’re Not Wanted went on to receive UK wide airplay and was featured on various music blogs and print media. This culminated in live sessions for BBC CWR, Radio 2 and being featured artists on XFM.

Following a hiatus, SENSES started envisioning a more ambitious plan for their future. SENSES began creating a multimedia campaign that would bring their story to life, working with some local artists and combining this with their indie spirit and DIY ethic.

Now, the debut album ‘Little Pictures Without Sound’, is finally set for release in August 2021, having been mixed by Gavin Monaghan with mastering by Jason Mitchell at LOUD Mastering (The Clash, Radiohead, PJ Harvey).

With uplifting anthems and their more emotive and introspective songs connected by mysterious snippets of spoken word, the album takes on a cinematic quality, finding beauty in everyday life. It’s a triumphant statement from a band ready for their moment in the spotlight after a long journey.

The first streaming and digital releases from the album have garners glowing reviews and support from BBC Introducing, RTÉ2 FM and XS Manchester.

Press:

“Justifying those comparisons with Doves, The Boxer Rebellion and The Verve that Senses have picked up down the years.” (Under the Radar Mag)

“Mesmerising, melodic rocker with honeyed harmonies. Jangly guitars gently intertwine with sprinkles of hi-hat, hazy bass riffs and big synths. It’s a wonderful mesh of powerful and pretty.” (Louder than War)

“Propelling guitars that capture the essence of indie rock.” (God Bless the Bands)

“Upbeat, anthemic, and utterly optimistic.” (RGM)

“Soaring guitars throughout, which remind us of Editors at their peak, combined with some effect laden vocals that elevate the track into the upper atmosphere.” (It’s All Indie)
